THE PROCESS:

The judging will consist of a two-part process:

1.  The two Co-Editors of Kind of a Hurricane Press, A.J. Huffman and April Salzano, will read every poem that is submitted.  This first round of reading will be a yes/no round.  Poems will be divided into two categories:  the Yeses and the Nos.  All poems that have been deemed Yeses by both editors will then move on to the second evaluation round.

2.  The two Co-Editors will then read each poem, scoring that poem on a scale of 1-10.  These scores will then be tallied, and the highest scoring poem will be named the winner.

In the event of a scoring tie:

As we intend there to be only one winner, if the scoring produces multiple 20 point poems, the Co-Editors will then read the poems one last time, and assign the final ranking.

Simultaneous submissions? Previously published submissions? Appreciate any clarification.

The very low entrance fee, and for three poems! is just excellent, as is the reading and selection process. I like this approach much better than having a single guest poet selecting based on her/his sole judgement. Thanks -

  2. Do you have to submit three? I'd like to submit only one if that's ok. I don't have a problem with paying the same submission amount.

    1. You do not have to submit three. If you have one really great poem, of course you may submit just that one, or you may two. The minimum fee, however is $5.00. We put the 3 poems/$5.00 as the three poems is the maximum number possible for submission for the base fee. But as you know, it only takes on great poem to win! Good luck!

  3. If it is posted on my blog, does that count as publication? Or can it be submitted to the contest?
